Volunteer
We are a local charity looking for volunteers to help support a group of 6 to 8 young adults (17 to 25 years old) in our day programs, Campus Life and Work Life. A Group Leader plans and runs the day-to-day activities but volunteers and staff are needed to support the young adults to engage.
Why volunteer?
Young autistic adults need to be around other young people, doing the same things, not hidden away being 'looked after'. We offer an engaging program where young people are supported to communicate, do group and individual activities and have fun. Come and help us make this happen!
When can I be involved?
We operate from 9am to 3pm on every weekday except Wednesdays. You are welcome to volunteer for a block of time on a weekly basis that suits you. We will provide an online training package to familiarise you with what we do and our policies. You will also need to apply for a Blue Card. This is free and online. We can help you with this.
What will you do? You'll help them engage.

- Engagement might be helping them use their communication device when playing card games so they can choose who to request a card from.
- It might be walking them to lunch and sitting with them so you can prompt for them to open their lunch and eat, or pack up to come back to the room.
- You could work on their Passion Projects with them, where they explore an area of high interest and create something from it.
- The weekly current affairs and entertainment quizzes are fun to be involved in, you might support someone to pick answers from the multiple choices given.
- Group therapies like exercise classes, art, music or communication need volunteers to help with turn taking and keeping on task.
